At TODI dive with your children in safe conditions with some of the world's most beautiful tropical freshwater fish. Divers can find close to 30 different species of freshwater fish sourced from exotic places like the Amazon, Malawi, and Malaysia. In total there are close to 2,200 fish that call TODI home. Species such as tilapia, gouramis, piranhas, cichlids, and plecos are all over the place – swimming, resting, frolicking and hiding amid the lifelike decor. The fish swim, shelter and breed between life-like objects such as caves, tunnels, cars and even an underwater bar. The children love to swim amongst the fish and if you are lucky you can witness a feeding frenzy.

The Dive Site is difficult to find, but well worth the effort. Set among industrialized remains of Be-MINE, a former coal depot, the TODI transformation is part of an award-winning urban renovation project. Owners of TODI, Dirk Heylen, and Wouter Schoovaerts, have spent 12 years developing this project. The coal depot, which closed in the late 1980s, has now been redeveloped into a €9 million fish tank tourist attraction. You get a 2 hour session with equipment included for around 50 euros at peak times. Its not the cheapest confined dive site, but it does have the novelty factor of diving with real marine life.

For families it provides an ideal training ground for real diving experiences with full scuba kit required. At 23 degrees Celsius a full 5-7mm wetsuit is necessary to stay warm. Entry is easy for children with steps leading down, and there is a 3m platform to practice skills in the central colosseum. Highlights include an underwater bar, a car, and a swim through tunnel.

The heart of the dive facility is its main pool, a gigantic waterproof basin measuring 10 meters (32 feet) deep and 36 meters (118 feet) in diameter. This basin, which was used in the past to wash the factory coal, holds roughly 6.5 million liters of water and is maintained at a temperature of 23°C.

If you time your dive session right, you may be in the tank when they feed the fish. The Children love this, as you can watch a fish frenzy, and it's really like you are in the centre of an aquarium. After the dive, there is a nice brasserie restaurant to visit on the ground floor.
